Survivor 2003!

Some of our groups used chart paper and brainstormed some of their ideas as they were sharing. Here is a compliation of those brainstorming sheets.

Standards and Curriculum

  • Staying current with new print materials and knowing what would compliment units of study
  • Work towards school goals
  • Attend/Volunteer School Improvement Committee
  • Share in a newsletter skills in the media center that tie into the classroom
  • Know literature as support resources
  • Be knowledgeable of grade level units and standards
  • Lead reading promotional activities and programs
  • Find out when teachers plan together and attend those meetings
  • Curriculum map
  • Track standards on collaboration forms
  • Help teachers collaborate together (cross grade levels and within their grade level)

Professional Relationship

  • Mentor new teachers
  • Provide friendly inviting atmosphere
  • Collaborate with teachers and let teachers know how to collaborate with LMS
  • Let teachers know how we can help reinforce (or teach) the state standards
  • Attend team meetings
  • Participate on school committees
  • Try to find grant resources for summer planning sessions
  • Request teacher imput on materials being ordered
  • Assist with grants
  • Be flexible in scheduling meetings
  • Help faciliate communication in the building
  • Make sure teachers know available resources
  • Be visible (eat lunch at various times -- make sure to eat in the teacher's lounge!)
  • Provide flexible hours to accomodate needs of others
  • Involve/Update Admin - PR for innovative programming with classrooms
  • Produce/Keep a collaboration log
  • Post new materials or ideas in bathrooms of the teachers
  • Invite staff to monthly breakfast for conversation and to see resources.
  • New teacher training - be a part of it.

Professional Growth

  • Take a by myself facation and read, read, read
  • Talk to staff and explain other parts of the LMS job
  • Annual summer staff retreat
  • Keep up with news updates in our profession - Internet, Journals, Workshops, Seminars, Conferences, Classes
  • Join, attend, and be active in your professional organization - AIME, AASL
  • Meet with othe LMS in your district

Support and Management Ideas

  • Keep journal using student agenda for those days when I think "where did the day go? what did I accomplish?"
  • If there is no operation manual, make one up!
  • Have media center website with links to site that would be useful for units
  • Calendars
  • Working with individual studnets
  • Know how to use the software in your building
  • Book talk new books
  • Promote reading to students - book talks, announcements, newsletters, etc.
  • Volunteers
  • Be available

Teacher Collaboration

Busy Professional Learning Center
