Effects of Property Tax Caps in Indiana
Indiana made major changes in its property tax system beginning in 2008. These changes culminated in the referendum placing tax caps in the state’s Constitution in November 2010. Now that the new system is fully phased-in, questions about its effects can be answered. Which taxpayers have benefitted from the reforms, and which have not? How much revenue has been lost by local governments, and why do some governments lose more than others? Popular speaker Prof. Larry DeBoer takes a dry, somewhat difficult subject and makes it easy to understand and even fun! He will discuss the effects of the property tax reforms and property tax caps on taxpayers, local governments generally and libraries specifically.
Presenter: Prof. Larry Deboer, Professor of Agricultural Economics, Purdue University
