School Library Census

In January 2018, Indiana Library Federation initiated a study of school libraries across Indiana. We need volunteers to answer detailed questions about the staffing composition and other features of school libraries in the 292 school districts, which includes 1,869 schools. Additionally, we will capture information for participating charter and private schools. We aim to use this point-in-time data and resulting report for outreach, education and advocacy.

Want to volunteer for an entire district or county? Sign up at the bottom. Volunteers are needed to make contacts. Requires attention to detail and about 20 minutes to 2 hours, depending upon size and knowledge of school district.

Instructions for Volunteers:

  1. Read and print memo about the process with INSTRUCTIONS and TIPS for survey completion for your reference
  2. View (and possibly print for your reference) the PDF of six pages of the Survey Instrument in advance of making your first call/completing for your school/corporation.
  3. COMPLETE the Survey Instrument in Survey Monkey

Help us meet our GOAL by COMPLETING BEFORE JANUARY 31.

If you are volunteering to complete the survey for a district or for multiple districts in a county or region, please check the list or contact the office to verify your selected school or district has not been completed.  The ILF office aims to update this list and the survey instrument on at least a weekly basis. If you have questions whether a specific district or school has been completed, please contact Brittany or Lucinda.
