Items on the agenda:
IALA luncheon speaker
ACRL funding
Spring / summer event

Item #1: Checking on speakers
Alberta asked if anyone has checked on speakers, but others thought we were only in charge of making suggestions and presenting those to ILF, who would then take care of securing them.

To decide on who we wanted most, we prioritized the list of potential speakers:
Nancy Fried Foster (anthropologist)
Author of Studying Students understanding undergrads and how they use information. Behavior of information users.
Steven Bell
John Shank
Imbedded librarian (similar to Bell).

Though encouraged to go with someone in-state, we agreed that out-of-state might bring in more interest and increase attendance.

Theme for conference is "Libraries Rock", which is very flexible and easy to find speakers to fit.

It came up that we were not sure how much money we have that we put toward this speaker. Questions of budget arose, and Mary Beth explained that while we have a budget, it is divided into various pieces. There's a budget for ongoing operations and then spring conference, but also a budget for the IALA conference (conference planning budget). Not sure what/how much that actually is. Operating budget may be $1500. This number is to be check on by Alberta.

For the conference speaker, ALI agreed to give $1150 if we can match it. Not sure how much the other group (Instruction and Education section) could offer. Getting another division or section to sponsor, that might help IALA get further funding assistance. One way to do that would be if the luncheon speaker also does a session, which could be sponsored by another group. It arose that in order to know what's going on with the conference, we should have a representative on the Conference Planning Committee. Alberta will email entire committee if someone is needed to fill that position.

Item #2: ACRL funding
Robin explained this for those of us who were unfamiliar with how it works. From Chapter 2 in ALA Chapter procedures. ACRL provides reimbursement of up to $1 per ACRL member of a chapter. Would only count for those members of IALA who are also ACRL members. There are restrictions on the reimbursement, however. Robin will check about the specific details about this from Megan, assistant at ACRL. Amount of reimbursement typically runs $150 to $200. However, Robin didn't think we'd ever asked for money for a specific conference event, so it might be a bit different in process than what has been followed in the past. Hoping to get some conference costs to be reimbursed through this means. Could help us come up with matching dollars for the luncheon speaker. It was discussed that this money is not something we can ask for up front, we must first spend it and then ask for reimbursement. In the past, ILF office was responsible for getting the reimbursement, but now the individual sections are submitting and requesting it. Robin will contact ACRL to make sure we're going in the right direction.

Item #3: Spring / Summer Conference
It was determined by all present that unless there was a strong idea for a program (possibly webinar), we should probably forego having an event. Pushing a program through just to have one could result in low participation, and summer didn't seem like a good time for one. Consensus was to forego the event this year.

Other items
Email from Susan regarding MCLS (formerly INCOLSA) about their potential sponsorship of a listserv for IALA. No one on the committee felt strongly for or against having a listserv. Would be a convenient way to disseminate info, but not sure how often we would need to send information to all IALA members. Not sure if it's free or for purchase. Probably can't afford to pay for it.

When a question of IALA membership arose, Jaena found documents from Executive meeting that stated as of Feb. 10th, IALA had 162 members.

Alberta to let committee know about luncheon speaker and support from other divisions and ACRL.

Meeting adjourned at 3:31pm.
