Plan to attend Library Day at the Statehouse to add your voice to our library advocacy.

What happens at Library Day at the Statehouse?

  • Attendees gather in the morning for a short training and group assignments. We meet at the Indiana State Library and walk over.
  • ILF prepares an individualized packet for each registered attendee.
  • ILF staff, with the help of Bose Public Affairs, works to secure appointments with legislators for registered attendees.
  • Attendees, when not meeting with legislators, may observe committee meetings, legislative session or tour the statehouse.
  • We "show" policymakers, legislative assistants, other organization lobbyists and statehouse guests a few examples of the modern library through our display on the 3rd floor bridge between the two chambers.
  • Attendees learn about the policymaking process and strengthen relationships with legislators.

How should I prepare?

  • Once registered, ILF will begin communicating with you about your legislators, your library, your experience, and your comfort level with advocacy.
  • All attendees are strongly encouraged to read the weekly Advocacy Updates and to participate on the bi-weekly Virtual Advocacy Updates
  • Closer to the date, ILF will send a special link to training and materials. All attendees are required to watch a short video about logistics and key messages for the day.
  • The best library advocacy happens all year long. Be the best library. Tell your story. Develop relationships with legislators and influencers. Listen to their goals and values. Tell your story.

Still unsure about attending?  Or are you new to library advocacy?  Do not hesitate to contact Lucinda for a personal 101 specific to your situation.
