School Library Census

(June 15, 2018 update)

Indiana Library Federation is completing analysis of staffing and features of school libraries and staff for a preliminary report we hope to make available in late June/early July.

Thank you, volunteers. Over 250 volunteers from school, public and academic libraries answered detailed questions about the staffing composition and other features of school libraries in nearly all of the 285 public school districts and tens of private or charter schools. We aim to use this point-in-time data and resulting report for outreach, education and advocacy.

If you are a school librarian or library assistant at a school and would like to update us about staffing or features in your school, please contact the office directly.

Background information about the survey:

The survey was launched in January, and final calls were made to schools in May. ILF contracted with an external consultant to analyze both the quantitative and qualitative data and to assist with writing the preliminary report.

Below is the information provided to volunteers who helped with surveying.

  1. Read and print memo about the process with INSTRUCTIONS and TIPS to understand the survey.
  2. View (and possibly print for your reference) the PDF of six pages of the Survey Instrument.
  3. The Survey Instrument in Survey Monkey was closed. Please contact the office to provide additional or updated information.

If you have questions whether a specific district or school was surveyed, please contact  Lucinda.
