The purpose of IPLA is to advice ILF leadership and support outreach, recruitment, retention of public library affiliated members in ILF.

Purpose & Role
The Public Library Directors Group serves as a collective body of public library leaders who advocate for the best interests of public librarians across the state of Indiana. Working in collaboration with the Indiana Library Federation, the group strengthens communication, professional development, and statewide coordination among public library directors.
Key Responsibilities
The Public Library Directors Group is responsible for:
- Serving as a unified voice advocating for public librarians and public libraries throughout Indiana.
- Planning and hosting bi‑monthly Zoom meetings for Public Library Directors, focused on timely and critical issues impacting the profession.
- Maintaining an up‑to‑date statewide directory of Public Library Director contacts.
- Communicating regularly with regional Public Library Director groups to support collaboration and information sharing across the state.
- Assisting the Indiana Library Federation in encouraging both institutional and individual ILF membership renewals.
2026 Goals
In 2026, the Public Library Directors Group will focus on the following priorities:
- Supporting the Indiana Library Federation’s efforts to increase institutional membership renewals for the 2026–2027 year.
- Encouraging Public Library Directors to share the IN FREADOM to Read initiative with Friends of the Library groups in their communities.
- Successfully hosting a new series of New Director Roundtable Discussions via Zoom, creating a supportive space for recently appointed directors to learn, connect, and share best practices.
Meetings & Key Dates
- Bi‑monthly Zoom Meetings - Tuesday's @ 10 AM ET/9 AM CT - REGISTER HERE
- Regular virtual meetings are held every other month to address emerging issues, share updates, and foster statewide collaboration among Public Library Directors.
